mōsō is a stationery brand creating premium bamboo paper notebooks. Designed with eco-friendly materials and ethical production, their products balance sustainability with aesthetics.

Starting point
mōsō started as an idea. The founder wanted to create a genuinely sustainable stationery brand - one that goes beyond surface-level eco claims and considers the entire process, from materials and production to delivery.
What didn’t exist yet was everything else: the name, the brand identity, the packaging, or a clear direction for how the brand should look and speak to its audience.

Challenge no.1
How could a new brand stand out in a crowded stationery market?

Challenge no.2
How could sustainability be communicated in a way that feels thoughtful, not performative?

Challenge no.3
How could a brand that doesn’t exist yet feel credible and trustworthy?
How we approached it

To build mōsō from the ground up, we began by slowing down and asking the right questions before making any design decisions.
01
Understanding the idea
We began with a detailed questionnaire to understand what mōsō was meant to be - why it should exist, what the founder wanted to change in the stationery space, and where the brand was heading long and short term.
02
Looking at the wider landscape
Next, we analysed both direct and indirect competitors to understand how sustainability is typically communicated in the stationery industry and where opportunities for differentiation existed.
03
Turning insight into direction
Based on these insights, we translated the research into a clear brand direction and strategic framework.
04
Shaping the brand together
Rather than moving straight into execution, we reviewed the strategy with the client in a collaborative session to challenge assumptions, refine ideas, and align on the final direction before design began.

I have had an excellent experience with a branding package with the Blooming Fern. The depth and scope of the work was very comprehensive and design quality also top notch. This project represented excellent value, especially considering the high quality of work. After the branding package, I was keen to carry on developing the brand with Zofia at The Blooming Fern, so had the website mock up created too - again the results are excellent. Communication also extremely efficient throughout - Zofia has been extremely responsive and helpful on calls.
